If you are athlete at any level and wanting to improve your athletic performance, you will need to improve your work ethic.
Hope this is not surprise to you but I have been seeing too many athletes, especially younger athletes, who are just going to their sports practice and expecting to improve. Here is a news for you. You will not going to make it. If you are doing same thing as your teammate, how do you expect you to be better than the others?
What do successful athletes do?
They workout at gym for 3-4 time per week during the off season and 2-3 time during the season. They work on recovery with proper nutrition and sleep. If they are students they organize their schedule so that they can fit their homework assignment.
If you are consuming sodas, cookies, chips more than 2 times per week, you will not make it. Your body will not have proper energy to perform during the game.
If you are not lifting weight because you are tired from school and practice, you won't improve. Therefore, you won't make a roster or even make it in tryout.
If you are staying up late playing game or posting pictures of social media, you will not make it through the season and end up in warming up the bench.
Athletes who are successful, managed time, worked on improve their athletic performance when they are tired, ate healthy when people around are feasting with junk.
What level of athleticism are you looking to accomplish? Do you think pros you see on TV made it there just with their genetic and luck? Some of them may have but that is only 2% of them. How about others? They worked hard both on and off the field.
Why did they worked hard? Because they learned that it does take time to gain results. Yes, results you are looking for will not come tomorrow but in months or even years. Is what you are wanting to accomplish worth that effort? If you answer yes, start improving your work ethic.
By the way, the work ethic that is written here is same work ethic you will need when you start working for your career. So might as well start learning how to work with purpose now.
If you are older athletes but still want to improve, same principle applies for you too.
