Training client is not a joke

Have you ever seen trainer having a middle school athlete carrying 135lb overhead and sprinting 15 yards and about to lose his balance?

During the training session, whether it is 1 on 1 or group setting, we, as a trainer, are responsible for the results and safety of the trainee. That is what we are paid to do.

Yet, it is very disturbing to see trainers having conversation and joking around with others, while the trainee is performing poorly executed squat with shaky legs. Not only squat was not properly coached by the trainer, but the trainee, clearly was not ready for the load that was set on the bar by the trainer.

As a trainer, it is critical to understand how to design the program for clients to improve their strength and performance. Poorly designed training program is not only ineffective but also can cause serious damage to the trainee to the point they may no longer able to participate in their sports or may cause issue(s) in their daily lives.

Let’s get this straight.

Trainees are not paying trainers to have conversation with another person while trainee is exercising. During the training session, all conversation other than with your clients can wait.  And if the conversation is needed to be done, do it when your client is not exercising.  Furthermore, trainees are not trainer’s toy to show off how great you are as a trainer.  Yes, I’m all for trainers sharing their clients’ results and effort that you and your client have put in; however, not risking clients with exercises that they are not ready to do.

I honestly don’t know why the trainer had the middle school athlete to run with 135lb above his head. I don’t know why trainers want to not focus on how the client is performing the exercise.  I cannot imagine how the clients feel when they are working so hard but the trainer is not caring at all.

Trainees are hiring trainers with a hope that they can get their goals accomplished, like being able to perform better in their sports. As a trainer, it is an honor and privilege to be able to be involved in their journey.

Training is not a joke. Toying with your client is crime.
